Back to Honduras with EWB
Hola again!
We have now completed our site assessment. Yesterday we finished mapping the existing water system and interviewing people from the various districts of Santiago. We found (and smelled) the local hog farm, got plenty of statistics from the resident nurse, and evaluated the proposed site of the water tank we will be building.
Then, like every night, we kicked back to swap stories with the group from Washington, Mo. Their organization have been coming down here for 15 years to do construction, medical, and dental work. The construction brigade is staying with us in the bodega, so we have gotten to know them quite well. Maybe we will come down with them in the future.
Today was spent looking at the water tank built by USAID, as well as a few of the future projects proposed for Pimienta. As for the rest of the day, we are going to help everyone pack up so that we can leave early tomorrow morning for the market at San Pedro Sula and the resort in Tela. We have our final meeting in Santiago at 5pm, when the people are off work. There, we will discuss all that we have done this week, reaffirm our mission of working with them as long as our partnership lasts, and, of course, thank everyone that has helped us.
Tonight, there is a celebration open to the public at the bodega. The WOM folks promise us it will be quite an experience. Elias, one of the student translators, was discussing the party and had to remind us that "Amercans can't dance." We can't really argue that one, unfortunately.
Adios!
